About the Artwork

On the occasion of The Met’s 150th anniversary, The Costume Institute’s 2020 exhibition, About Time: Fashion and Duration, traces a century and a half of fashion from 1870 to the present. Featuring new and striking photography by Nicholas Alan Cope, this print features a 2005 ensemble by Viktor & Rolf paired with a 1939 dress by Madeleine Vionnet. Including close details of both garments, this print is a revealing reminder of a momentous exhibition.
