About the Artwork

On the occasion of The Met’s 150th anniversary, The Costume Institute’s 2020 exhibition, About Time: Fashion and Duration, traces a century and a half of fashion from 1870 to the present. Featuring new and striking photography by Nicholas Alan Cope, this print pairs an American evening dress from around 1928 with a 1997 dress designed by John Galliano. Featuring close details of both garments, this print is an illuminating reminder of a momentous exhibition.
