About the Artwork

On the occasion of The Met’s 150th anniversary, The Costume Institute’s 2020 exhibition, About Time: Fashion and Duration, traces a century and a half of fashion from 1870 to the present. Featuring new and striking photography by Nicholas Alan Cope, this poster brings together 24 garments that have been paired by shape, material, technique, and other characteristics. Including pieces by historically significant designers such as Madeleine Vionnet, Christian Dior, Charles James, and more—in addition to leading fashion houses of today—this unique poster is sure to be an enduring reminder of a momentous exhibition.
